About

Blankets4Vets is a Strategic Program under the Veterans Support Initiative at Geo-Spectrum Community Development – a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

It was founded in memory of a Veteran of a foreign war, loving husband, and devoted father who passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer. During his hospital stays, he would often request blankets for additional warmth and comfort. As a result, we became regular customers at the local stores, purchasing blankets for him. After he passed, during our grieving and healing process, the idea for Blankets4Vets was born. Realizing other Veterans may have been experiencing the same discomfort he faced, but potentially without the resources and/or support systems to assist them in gaining relief, we decided to commit our efforts to this cause. Our goal is to serve as many Veterans as possible through the Blankets4Vets program.

Our initial giving focuses on providing Veterans suffering from PTSD and other mental health issues with free high quality weighted blankets, however our ultimate goal is to provide every Veteran with a weighted blanket for their service. We engage in blanket distributions to VA hospitals, resource centers, community shelters and homeless Veterans in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (“DMV”) area, as well as ship blankets to Veterans nationwide free of charge.

Blankets4Vets is a proud recipient of grant funds from Overwatch Alliance.
